"We enhance their

key personal and emotional skills"

Effort, respect

and knowledge

Our purpose is to prepare our students to confidently face the challenges of adulthood. Our learning approach is geared towards developing the knowledge and skills that students will need in their future university studies: new technologies, written expression, oral presentations, teamwork, critical thinking and the importance of languages in an increasingly global world.

The school’s Guidance Department intensifies its attention in this last stage of school life by accompanying students in their decision-making.

Learning

Experiences

Learning experiences

Colegio Legamar considers that the official curriculum does not cover areas that we consider fundamental to guarantee the comprehensive education of our students. To this end, a programme covering different learning experiences is implemented throughout all school years, which takes on a greater dimension in the secondary education stage. These activities contribute to developing critical thinking skills, social and communication skills, initiative and entrepreneurship. During Secondary Education, these skills are specially focused on the participation of our students in projects organised outside the school by other institutions. Thus, throughout Secondary and Baccalaureate years, students have the opportunity to participate in United Nations models, the Technovation Challenge, RetoTech, Reto 20/30, the First Lego League and olympiads in different academic disciplines.

Emotional education

The emotional education programme in secondary school focuses on the ability to process situations more deeply and accurately, which allows for more refined and reasoned responses, a skill that constitutes the central core of emotional intelligence.  Adolescence is a critical stage that poses enormous personal development challenges, since individuals begin to claim and build their independence in that time, as well as to choose other referents which are no longer the parents but the peer group.

Drama, speech and debate and public speaking.

The spoken communication skills of our students are developed throughout secondary school and from the perspective of managing two vehicular languages. Speech and debate, drama, theatre in English, and public speaking are aimed at the development of rational, logical and discursive thinking; the development of critical thinking, spoken communication, body language and respect for the opinions of others.

Learning to be a citizen

The election system of the Class Councils helps our students reflect on the commitment of being of service to others that comes with accepting any of the three roles: Spokesperson, Secretary and Coexistence Mediator. Each of these three positions has its own responsibilities and, under the direction of the tutor and with the advice of the Guidance Department, they are responsible for ensuring that students work and get along well together in the classroom throughout the school year, both to carry out academic tasks and to develop positive social links between all members of the Educational Community.
